Claire Heale

Local Representative

Contact: Claire.Heale@landlords.org.uk

Claire has been a landlady since she rented out her own house in the early 90s. Since 2006 she has developed her portfolio and now specialises in HMO properties – renting primarily to young professionals.

Claire became a member of the NLA in 2006 and became the NLA Local Representative for Exeter, Mid Devon & North Devon in August 2010. As part of the South West team she sees her role primarily as one of promoting the NLA, its aims and objectives to individual landlords, the local authorities and other organisations with housing interests.

Claire manages her HMO houses in Exeter and believes that “If I wouldn’t live there – I wouldn’t expect my tenants to live there”. Therefore all her properties are decorated to a high standard and well maintained. Claire strongly believes “It’s better to check each house regularly and maintain, rather than have costly repairs at a later date”.

Working for the NLA has been a natural progression for Claire, as a regular user of the advice line and landlord library, finding these services completely invaluable, she finds it easy to promote the services of the NLA to prospective members.

Being a landlord can have its up and downs, however Claire enjoys the challenges and strives to raise the standards within the private rental sector.
