Tristan Compton

Local Representative

 Contact: Tristan.Compton@landlords.org.uk

Tristan became a member of the NLA in 2007, and has been the NLA’s representative for Edinburgh and South East Scotland since January 2010.

He originally became a landlord in 2003 and now owns a variety of properties covering most types of tenant (Professionals, Students,  and LHA) in locations stretching from Edinburgh to London. Although being a landlord and an NLA rep takes up some of his time, he also runs his own property development company, and has other non-property business interests.

“I find that membership of the NLA is worthwhile not only for the wide variety of money saving benefits it brings, but I also consider it vital that landlords unite to make their voices heard by politicians, and relevant NGOs. My role as a representative in Scotland's capital city allows me to quite literally make my voice heard, on behalf of our members, at Holyrood, and with a variety of local authorities. I feel that we can influence government policy both at Holyrood and Westminster but only if landlords put forward well-reasoned arguments to defend our businesses from unnecessary or damaging legislation.

I want to use my role as local representative for Edinburgh and the surrounding areas to engage with as many local landlords as possible, and to help them to be successful at dealing with the raft of new legislation that has been thrust upon landlords in recent years. There are plans to broaden our network of branches across Scotland with regular meetings where we can share experiences and learn from each other. With yet more legislation on the way in the form of deposit protection (unfortunately due to come to Scotland soon), I expect that many more landlords will join the NLA to stay abreast of developments, take advantage of the membership benefits and discounts, and to make their voices heard.”

Tristan will also be liaising with local authority staff to represent NLA member’s views, and to build working relationships with the local authorities, and expects this to benefit both the authorities and landlords over time.

“I would welcome any local members to contact me to discuss what you would like the NLA to do for you.”
