Introduction

UKALA is dedicated to representing the interests of letting and management agents in the UK, whilst also safeguarding the interests of both landlords and tenants.

In March 2011, following an overwhelming vote at its AGM, UKALA signed a mutually beneficial business agreement with the National Landlords Association (NLA).

It has long been recognised that Letting Agents and Landlords represent two sides of the same coin. This coming together represents an excellent opportunity to move towards a unified voice for landlords and letting agents in the private-rented sector.

In practice this means that UKALA and NLA will work more closely together. UKALA members will benefit from the range of benefits and services available.

Not just different - better!

There are a number of trade bodies and associations representing letting and management agents in the UK.

UKALA offers a similar range of services to other associations, but what sets UKALA apart from other representative bodies is the business benefit deriving from the relationship with NLA.

Access to landlords and tenants
How do you attract landlords and tenants?

  • Advertising?
  • Website?
  • Shop Front / Visitors?
  • To Let Boards

It’s not easy. It can be expensive and it’s not always successful!

Strength through unity
NLA has been making member landlords and the wider landlord community aware of the relationship between NLA and UKALA.

  • NLA is already dealing with enquiries from landlords who are keen to find out more about the NLA involvement with agents
  • The NLA website is attracting an increasing number of visitors to the section ‘Search for a UKALA agent’
  • Many UKALA agents are promoting their business via the NLA website

Never before has a representative body for letting agents given its members the ability to reach landlords in this way and offer the potential to generate new business.

Dealing with complex issues

The Policy Team represents members’ views and interests at a local, national and European level.

They work to influence public policy by working with civil servants, parliamentarians, regulators and other interest bodies to ensure a fair and balanced private-rented sector.

The Policy Team also campaigns on topics where we believe urgent change is needed. This covers a diverse range of issues under five broad categories.

The unity between UKALA and NLA will allow both parties to address unique and shared problems such as:

  • Taxation
  • Justice & Legal
  • Built Environment
  • Business
  • Welfare

... and tackle issues such as:

  • Regulation of Letting Agents
  • Registration of Landlords
  • Financial Protection (Client Money)
  • Agent Fees / Transparency & Renewals
  • Private sector leasing
