UKALA Code of Practice

UKALA was formed to meet a need, the need for a professional body to represent the best interest of letting and management agents.

In order for us to be able to do this to the best of our abilities, we need to be able to demonstrate that UKALA members operate legally, fairly and are committed to the finest professional standards and ideals. Therefore, we ask all prospective members to agree to observe a code of practice based on the highly respected “Code of Practice for Residential Letting Agents” published by The Property Ombudsman (TPO).

This code is a voluntary agreement to treat your clients fairly, and to practice business in straightforward manner which does not disadvantage anybody involved.  By signing up to the code of practice, UKALA members agree to:

  • Act in good faith towards landlords, tenants, and any other third party with whom you do business treating them fairly and with respect.
  • Ensure transparency in respect of your terms of business, fee structure and contracts.
  • Manage data responsibly and securely, ensuring appropriate confidentiality.
  • Keep clear and concise written records.
  • Handle all client money responsibly and in accordance with appropriate laws, professional standards and norms.
  • Operate a clear and accessible in house complaints process.
  • Inform all clients of your UKALA membership and make available this code of practice.
