Historically the best place to advertise your property was in your local newspaper. However with increased job mobility, greater pressures on professionals to spend more time at work, and new generations of Internet-savvy professionals, the Internet has now become one of the first places tenants look to.

The first UK Internet property portals were launched in 1995, UK Property Gold and Internet Property Finder. This led to a proliferation of portals springing up through the late nineties. By 2001 there were 109 property portals in the UK.
