High Attendance at Cardiff Landlord Event

from "UK Landlord" magazine, January 2007

Cardiff City and County Council hosted a very successful open day for landlords in Cardiff recently. The NLA participated in, and supported, the event which was attended by over 300 people, with 38 exhibitors.

"We were very happy to back Cardiff in holding what is now the sixth event of its kind," said Lee Cecil, the NLA Representative in Wales and Chairman of the Cardiff Landlord Forum, which was one of the partner organisers. "This is exactly the type of event that we need more of across the country. It helps break down barriers and brings together the wide range of people who have an interest in the privaterented sector." The Open Day was held in Cardiff City Hall and had as its keynote speakers Edwina Hart, Minister for Social Justice & Regeneration in the Welsh Assembly, and Councillor Judith Woodman from the City Council. Four workshops were part of the programme and these covered Bonds and Deposits, the new Housing Health and Safety Rating System, the licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupancy, and the future of lettings in the Cardiff area.

Simon Gordon, NLA Head of Public Affairs, commented: "A great deal of thought went into the planning of this occasion and it is clear that such an approach paid off. This was the best attended of these Cardiff shows so far. It became apparent that the overwhelming majority of those who attended were very satisfied with how the day went. Cardiff Council has hit on a winning formula here and I would urge other local authorities to give thought as to how they could organise similar events."
