Energy Performance Certificates unveiled

from "UK Landlord" magazine, May 2007

Energy Performance CertificateThe regulations outlining the fine detail surrounding the introduction of Energy Performance Certificates were laid before Parliament on 29 March.

The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007external weblink outline aspects of the legislation such as, legal duties, the sort of information required, duties on Energy Assessors, sanctions for non-compliance and a timetable for full implementation.

Background

EPCs are the largest remaining compulsory component of the Home Information Packs. In the future there will be a requirement for anyone marketing and selling or letting residential property to have an Energy Performance Certificate they can make available to the prospective tenant or buyer. The certificate will illustrate the energy efficiency of the property in a very similar format to that already used on white goods.
