Fire Safety online
from "UK Landlord" magazine, May 2007
Since March of this year, homeowners have been given access to fire safety assessments by signing up online at www.fire.gov.uk .
The new online service makes it simpler to arrange a fire safety assessment of a property and facilitates contact with local Fire and Rescue Service (FRS).
The website, Fire Gateway , allows visitors to submit online requests for non-emergency services provided by their local FRS. Services include a home fire-safety self-assessment, free home and school fire safety visits from the FRS and fire safety advice for families and individuals in cases where there are concerns about people starting deliberate fires. It is hoped that the online system will encourage property owners to increase their fire-safety awareness and consequently save lives. The FRS is developing partnerships with local organisations to provide services to those homeowners without internet access at home and to reduce fire deaths and related injuries.
Fire Gateway is a fire prevention initiative and is not intended to deal with requests for emergency services, which should be made
by dialling 999 and asking for 'Fire'.
