Free advertising for Worcester Student Lets
from "UK Landlord" magazine, July 2007
The University of Worcester Student Accommodation Office will give landlords free advertising for private rented accommodation on its website.
The offer comes at the same time as the University has announced that at the start of the coming academic year there will be a shortfall of anything between 200 and 600 student beds, with many students seeking housing via the private sector.
The estimation is broad due in part to the fact that the university does not yet know how many of their new students will be domiciled in the county and therefore eligible for university help in obtaining accommodation. There has also been a record-breaking increase in applications for degree courses this year, which at 35% is the second-highest increase ever in the UK. What is certain, however, is that not all first-year students will automatically be provided with a Hall of Residence, and that more accommodation is needed.
Demand for good-quality, well-managed property will continue to be an issue given the university's aims to increase its student numbers from 8,500 to 12 ,000 by the year 2012 . The University is therefore keen to find beds for its students and is offering landlords free promotion of suitable accommodation through its website, as well as support and advice on recent legislation. The University and the local council are also collaborating together to provide a free accreditation scheme as
further encouragement.
