The liability of the landlord to repair the properties within his or her portfolio can appear onerous in terms of both expense and time. Statutory obligations set the minimum standards for landlords in terms of repairing properties let under assured shorthold tenancies, in addition to the contractual arrangements in the tenancy agreement which may well impose more extensive obligations.
