Help for Owners of Empty Homes
from "UK Landlord" magazine, Sep 2007
Landlords who own a long-term empty property and are unsure how best to deal with it may want to contact East Hampshire District Council.
The Council's Private Sector Housing team has had good results in bringing long-term empty properties within the area back into use.
The team offers advice and assistance with arranging structural surveys, estimates from reputable contractors for any renovation work, property valuations and/or opportunities for letting out the property. One of the successes arising from its campaign has been assisting the owner of a long-term empty property to sell a house in Alton (the old cottage hospital) which had been empty for nearly 10 years. The owner, Mr Dave Waller, was positive about his experience of working with the Council on this:
"The objective of getting the property back into use was one that we and the Council shared and so the relationship was always co-operative."
