French interest in new approach to Social Housing
from "UK Landlord" magazine, November 2007
Housing experts from France have visited Hillingdon to learn about the private sector leasing scheme that operates in the London borough.
Officials from the Agence Nationale de l'Habitat, the French public sector agency responsible for developing social housing in the private sector, came to see how Hillingdon Council manages its long-term housing for the homeless through a private sector leasing scheme. The scheme involves 1000 homes in the borough and is operated by property services group Orchard & Shipman plc, who operate a similar scheme they manage on behalf of the City of Edinburgh.
Zaheer Iqbal of Hillingdon Council said "Our Private Sector Leasing scheme has enabled Hillingdon Council to offer good quality homes to families who would otherwise be in bed and breakfast accommodation. We are pleased to share best practice on working in partnership with the private sector to meet the needs of homeless
people."
