Selective Licensing in areas of low demand

Selective licensing is a tool that is available to local authorities in areas of low housing demand or areas which are known to have a particular problem with anti-social behaviour. If an area is designated by the local authority as subject to selective licensing, landlords of ALL privately-rented properties in the area have to apply for licences for the properties.

It is anticipated that selective licensing is particularly likely to be used by local authorities in areas of the north of England to deal with severe problems of low demand and anti-social behaviour.
