NLA North East Branch Meeting - Newcastle City Council Article 4 Powers and Selective Licensing
Event Overview:
Do you let any of your properties to 3 or more tenants? If the answer is yes then you let a shared house or House in Multiple Occupation (HMO).
Newcastle City Council is proposing to limit the number shared housing by requiring planning permission for all new HMOs.
To oppose this unnecessary move, the NLA is running a local campaign to oppose this Direction so please support us by clicking on the link below and registering your opposition with your local Member of Parliament.
We have also arranged a special meeting at the Civic Centre, Barrass Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne for members who either have or are thinking about buying property in Newcastle. You will hear from representatives of the City Council on why they have decided to apply for these powers and how they anticipate it will affect landlords and residents.
Many landlords were unaware of the proposal so this meeting will allow Landlords, students and residents an opportunity to understand the wider implications of the move prior to a final decision being made. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and make local Councillors aware of your views.
We hope that as many Landlords as possible will come along to fully understand the implications for them and let the Council know their views. In order to try and make sure we have a room large enough to accommodate the number of people attending could you kindly confirm your attendance by clicking the 'book now' box by 25 February.
If you would like a question asked at the meeting but do not wish to do it personally you may email your NLA representative Bruce.haagensen@landlords.org.uk and we will endeavour to make sure it is asked.
There will also be a short presentation at the meeting on the reasons why Selective Licensing has been introduced in two areas of the City and the perceived benefits which will be seen. Again there will be an opportunity to ask questions and convey your views to the Council.
