Newcastle City Council consulting landlords

Newcastle City Council is curently seeking landlords' views on two issues of local importance.

1. Implementation of an Article Four Direction:

Despite existing plans for an Article Four Direction (which would require landlords to obtain planning permission before establishing a new small shared house) to be implemented on 25 November 2011, the City Council would like landlords' views on the matter.

During a previous consultation exercise no landlord views were received leading the council to conclude that there were no objections.

This time around the NLA would like to encourage as many local landlords as possible to contact the Council to expres their views.

In particular the City Council would like landlords to answer two questions:

Q1 - Do you think the Council should confirm implementation of an Article Four Direction covering the Area of Housing Mix as outlined in the Supplementary Planning Document (attached)?

Q2 -  Would you support an Article Four Direction covering other parts, or all of the City?

Comments must be made by 4 November 2011 to the Housing & Strategy Team.

They may be emailed to: dianne.perry@newcastle.gov.uk or posted to:

2. Restrictions on the use of advertising boards in Jesmond Ward:

Newcastle City Council is also consulting on proposals to restrict the use of 'To Let' and similar boards in the Jesmond Area.

The proposals will limit the type, size and location of boards as well as the duration of their use.

The NLA is concerned about the impact which this policy could have on landlords' ability to market their properties in Jesmond.
