Direct payment of local housing allowance to landlords and greater local authority engagement were key issues discussed during the Private Rented Sector Summit hosted by the National Landlords Association (NLA).

The 35 delegates representing landlords from across the UK met in London to consider issues affecting the sector.

The summit was an opportunity for landlords to discuss challenges facing the private rented sector and how organisations can better work together.

Delegates came from a range of organisations including the Residential Landlords Association, the Eastern Landlords Association and the Portsmouth and District Private Landlords Association.

Barry Markham, NLA Director for Regions, said:

"It was great to see representatives from multiple landlord associations get together to discuss issues affecting the sector."

"What became clear from the summit was the desire to work more closely with local authorities as well as the concerns around local housing allowance cuts and HMO planning – both of which will have a devastating impact on landlords and tenants.

"The summit was an excellent opportunity to hear from landlords across the country about issues affecting them and where they see the sector heading. Hopefully it will be the first of many."
