David Salusbury

David Salusbury has been Chairman of the National Landlords Association (NLA) since 2003.

After graduating from King’s College London, where he read modern languages, David spent some years in the Armed Forces. In the mid 1980s he began developing a portfolio of residential property in Kingston upon Thames, London, becoming a full-time landlord in 1995.

In 1998 David joined the NLA (then the Small Landlords Association), and joined the committee in 2000. From the outset he has actively promoted the aims of the NLA which are to influence public policy for the private-rented sector, provide information and benefits for member landlords to help them make a success of their lettings businesses and to raise standards in the private-rented sector.

David is a member of the Institute of Directors and UK Vice-President of the International Union of Property Owners (UIPI).

John Socha

John Socha is Vice-Chairman of the National Landlords Association (NLA) and owns a property management company managing over 1,000 apartments on 55 sites.

John worked in sales positions for three international companies and in 1995 an unexpected conversation with his solicitor gave him the start of a lettings business.

Starting in Moulton, John relocated the business to bigger premises three times over the next eight years finally locating on a main business street in Northampton. The office was owned and custom-designed specifically for lettings. Within six months of starting the lettings agency, John started purchasing his own rental properties. During the next ten years he built a portfolio of 21 properties.

John has been Vice-Chairman of the NLA since 2003 and a member for over 12 years.

Anthony Lock

Anthony has been on the board of the National Landlords Association as a non-executive director for five years and is a London-based residential landlord as well as a major shareholder in a property development company.

Anthony graduated in business studies, specialising in marketing. As an NLA board director he oversees the association’s marketing operation and has over 15 years’ experience in corporate marketing, both in the UK and abroad.

Anthony is also a director of three freehold property management companies, a non-executive board director of Tenancy Deposit Solutions Limited (TDSL), which trades as mydeposits.co.uk, and a member of the Institute of Directors.

Richard Price

Richard Price is an NLA Board member as well as Director of Operations at the London Headquarters.

Richard has over 12 years’ experience as a landlord with a mixed portfolio of property across Dorset, Hampshire and Lancashire. He also has eight years’ experience working on behalf of landlords at a local, national and international level.

Before becoming a professional landlord, he was a trainer, examiner and lead auditor for a range of professions including engineering, search and rescue and oil exploration.

Richard is an elected member of the National HMO Network (Houses in Multiple Occupation) and a member of the Institute of Directors.

Simon Gordon

Simon Gordon is Head of Communications for the National Landlords Association. He has been with the NLA, initially as a consultant, since 2002.

A graduate of the University of Leeds, Simon was Government Relations Officer and then Head of Public Affairs at the Electricity Association between 1990 and 2000, helping establish, what was then, a new organisation.

He then ran his own consultancy with a career break between 2001 and 2002 when he was working in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, Rt. Hon. Iain Duncan-Smith MP.

Simon chaired the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Government Affairs Group from 1998 to 2002 and has lectured on public affairs to both students and civil servants.

He has also stood for election to both the European Parliament and Westminster.

Elizabeth Brogan

Elizabeth Brogan is Senior Policy Officer at the National Landlords Association (NLA) representing the interests of NLA members and the wider private rental sector to external organisations.

She has an in-depth understanding of policy and public affairs gained from a career which has included work for senior MPs (including the late John Smith and Donald Dewar) as well as the civil service and in public affairs consultancies.

From March 2005 to July 2006 Elizabeth also worked on part-time secondment to the policy team at the Department of Communities and Local Government responsible for developing the regulations governing HMO licensing under the Housing Act 2004.

Her key areas of expertise cover a wide variety of topics affecting the sector including housing benefit, energy efficiency, the digital switchover and the implications of the Housing Act 2004 for landlords.

Elizabeth read History at the University of London and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Vincenzo Rampulla photoVincenzo Rampulla

Vincenzo Rampulla joined the National Landlords Association (NLA) as Public Affairs Officer in April 2008 and takes lead responsibility on a variety of key areas including gas and fire safety; Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish issues; Greater London Assembly and the Mayor’s office and equality and disability issues.

Before joining the NLA, Vincenzo worked for a third-sector social enterprise consultancy with responsibility for policy and communications.

Previous to that he worked as a policy advisor at the Department for Communities and Local Government, working on aspects of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and the Department for Constitutional Affairs (now the Ministry for Justice) on the reform of the regulation of legal services. Vincenzo also worked as a policy and communications advisor for a public policy consultancy working for a number of private, public and third-sector clients.

Vincenzo read physics at Balliol College, Oxford, and Politics, Philosophy and History at Birkbeck College, University of London.

Chris Norris photoChris Norris

Since August 2008, Chris Norris has been Product Manager – NLA RentBack, a regulatory force for those landlords operating in sale and rent back which ensures the protection of consumers and the raising of standards.

He joined the NLA as Policy Officer in April 2007 and took lead responsibility on a number of key areas including possession, taxation and Scottish and Welsh issues.

Before joining the NLA Chris worked in parliamentary affairs for the National Childbirth Trust, a campaigning charity and prior to this had various public affairs and communications roles within the NHS and the private rented sector.

Chris read politics and international relations at the University of Essex.
